This letter is never used in the beginning of a word; the capital form is reserved for use in wholly-capitalized words.

Ɛala ɛaks ħarf el Y elli fe-l Engelizi, el Y hena benestaɛmelha bass ka ħarf sabet, mec motaħarrek. Yaɛni zayy el Y el Engelizi elli fe kelmet yes, bass mec zayy Y fe very.
Unlike its English counterpart, The Y letter here is a consonant Y only, it should never be used as a vowel, i.e. as in yes, but not as in very.

El ħoruf di fe-l ġaleb betkun mawguda fe-k kalam elli men aṣl agnabi.
These letters are mostly used in words originating from foreign languages.

El Eɛlan el Ɛalami le Ħoquq el Ensan, el madda-l awwalaneyya:

El baniqadmin kollohom mawludin ħorrin we metsawyin fe-k karama we-l ħoquq. Etwahablohom el ɛaql we- ḍamir, we-l mafruḍ yeɛamlo baɛḍ be roħ el axaweyya.
