El-h’arf da mec benestaa’melo xales’ fe awwel el-kalam; el-kapital betaa’o mawgud bass a’acan nestaxdemo lamma l-kelma kollaha tekun kapital.

This letter is never used in the beginning of a word; the capital form is reserved for use in wholly-capitalized words.

A’ala a’aks h’arf el-Y elli fell-Engelizi, el-Y hena benestaa’melha bass ka h’arf sabet, mec motah’arrek. Yaa’ni zayy el-Y ell-Engelizi elli fe kelmet yes, bass mec zayy Y fe very.

Unlike its English counterpart, the Y letter here is a consonant Y only, not tobe used as a vowel, i.e. as in yes, but not as in very.
